Another evening with friends on discord. We got tired of Overwatch after Rammatra’s long patience (I’ll write about this later), we got tired of For Honor, Paladins didn’t work for one of us, and the other didn’t want to buy BttleBit. We decided to look for something small and cheap, so we could quickly download and fly. We’re browsing through Steam and then my eye catches on some free craft about pirates. I go in, and it turns out to be multiplayer, well, I think that’s it, now we’ll laugh at the feces from early access made on the knee. Let’s download the game together, go in and… And then

It turns out it’s not so bad

Immediately imbued with the atmosphere of piracy and adventure, we were surprised to discover that this is a very fun game, an Albion larva in the setting of pirate romance. Destroy enemy fleets, upgrade your favorite ship, trade, travel, fight giant sea monsters, make friends and defeat enemies. Sounds like a dream game for a One Piece fan.

The color palette is pleasing to the eye (almost Portal Knights), the different behavior of enemies, their changes in tactics as a reaction to your actions (which is completely atypical for MMOs I have played). I’m a big fan of Tempest, it created many hours of pleasure for me, but I perfectly understand that for many it is stuffy, because different projectiles, aimed fire sectors, ballistics, distribution of personnel by roles and much more will simply alienate the mass user and will definitely not benefit the multiplayer component. Everything here is simple at its core and very (maybe even too) gradually complicated. You don’t want to read about mechanics, you just want to swim away and do as much as possible.

Here you have the loss of cargo upon death (plus the piastres savings are halved) and trade, forcing you to travel, because you make no more than one transaction with the merchant until the return of the offer (most likely another one), then you can sell the goods in the hub for pennies or in ports scattered around the world for a decent price. But no one guarantees you that you will be able to sell it there at all, because demand changes every half hour.

And the fight is https://pop-casino.co.uk/ beautiful in its simplicity. You have no restrictions in the sector, shoot in all four directions. You don’t have the task of calculating ballistics and hitting the upper deck with buckshot, and creating a hole in the lower deck with a cannonball. Just shoot what you feel comfortable with, just enjoy the game.

And most importantly, there are monkeys there and they breakdance!

Unfortunately

The birthday of this game has not yet arrived, so all the jambs below may become irrelevant by the time of release or even earlier.

1) The map turned out to be a little small and it will be cramped for several dozen players, and despite the high replayability of each of the 9 seas, they are boring with their length.

2) Inconvenient change of arsenal. I would like the hook to be on a separate key. I would like there to be no confusion, because an unknown array of weapons is switched to PKM in an order that is incomprehensible to me, and I don’t want to take my fingers away from the standard layout to poke at the numbers in the middle of a battle.

3) Periodic small bugs, such as the strange behavior of non-dogs or the refusal of numbers to change during interaction (when you click on the buy button, but there are no more goods, as well as less money, but it says that everything went well).

The enemy has been twitching in the safe zone for at least two days. Does not attack and cannot be attacked, nor can it swim out.

4) The saddest and main problem. The game simply does not have a sufficient fan base; when you go to the server you will see no more than 2-3 people, which, of course, is not enough for close interaction. I couldn’t even add the game to my account, because there isn’t one in the stopgame database.

I am sincerely confident that in the upcoming Piratopia: Raiders of Pirate Bay or simply when Piratopia itself is released (I still don’t understand why these are different games) all these problems will be minimized. Then the joke about the game of the year will cease to be a joke. I believe in this project and I hope that I have interested you in trying out this masterpiece. After all, what do you have to lose, the game is free.
